Michael Rosskothen
German

I do consider the result of my creations with a view to continuous readiness to take a new approach concerning contents as well as concerning the plethora of techniques and materials used by me. For me, art is a platform of understanding, not on the level of every day communication but of innovative and unpredictable shapes. In my works, spontaneity has priority over construction, inspiration over regularity. What prevails in my work is objective painting. This form of painting is good painting as long as it is only so in an abstract sense. A figure or a tree do not make a good picture just because a figure or a tree are visible. What counts is the interplay of lines and colours. This creates expressiveness. For me, this is the very basis of painting.
